Abstract

Abstract

Adolescence is characterized by rapid physical growth and development that requires balanced nutrient intake. Female

adolescents are prone to nutritional problems due to irregular eating patterns and insufficient nutrient intake. According to the

2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the national prevalence of undernutrition or thinness among adolescents aged 16–18

years was 9.4%, while overnutrition was 7.3%. SMA Tahfizhul Qur’an Labbaik in Pontianak City is a boarding school that

provides three meals a day, but meal portions are distributed manually without standard serving sizes. The purpose of this

study was to describe the macronutrient intake (energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate) and nutritional status of female adolescents

at SMA Tahfizhul Qur’an Labbaik, Pontianak City. This descriptive observational study involved 60 respondents selected by

proportional random sampling by grade. Nutrient intake data were collected using a 3 x 24-hour food recall, and nutritional

status was assessed using BMI-for-age according to Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2020. Data were analyzed using

univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed low energy intake (51.7%), low protein intake (50.0%) and adequate

protein intake (50.0%), low fat intake (51.7%), low carbohydrate intake (76.7%), and good BMI/age nutritional status (91.7%).

The highest percentage of good nutritional status was found in adequate energy intake (96.6%), adequate protein intake

(93.3%), and adequate fat intake (96.6%), whereas for carbohydrate intake the percentages were similar (low 91.3%; adequate

92.9%). In conclusion, most female adolescents had good nutritional status, but macronutrient intake, particularly

carbohydrate, energy, and fat, did not meet requirements.
