Abstract

Background: Snack food plays an important role in students' dietary patterns and can affect their nutritional status. Nutrition Department students, as future health professionals, are expected to serve as role models for healthy eating behavior, yet good knowledge does not always translate into actual practice. Research Objective: This study aims to describe the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding the selection of street food, as well as the knowledge and attitudes concerning street food selection behaviors, among students of the Nutrition Department at Poltekkes Kemenkes Pontianak. Research Method: This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 81 students selected from a population of 428 students in the Department of Nutrition using stratified random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires assessing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, and subsequently analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods. Univariate analysis results are presented as frequency distributions and percentages, while bivariate analysis results are presented as cross-tabulations between knowledge and behavior, and between attitudes and behavior. Results: Most students had good knowledge (69.1%), a supportive attitude (98.8%), and good snack food selection behavior (59.3%). Cross-tabulation showed that good knowledge and supportive attitudes were more commonly found among students with good snack food selection behavior. However, some students with good knowledge and supportive attitudes still demonstrated poor snack food selection behavior. Conclusion: Most students had good knowledge, supportive attitudes, and good snack food selection behavior. Good knowledge and supportive attitudes tended to be accompanied by good snack food selection behavior, although inconsistencies between knowledge, attitudes, and behavior were still found.
