Abstract

The background of this study is that anemia among adolescent girls remains a significant health problem, especially caused by low nutritional intake and lack of compliance in consuming Iron Supplement Tablets. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between compliance with Iron Supplement Tablets consumption and animal protein intake with the incidence of anemia among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 3 Ambawang, Kubu Raya Regency. The research method used was a cross-sectional design with a total of 52 seventh-grade female students as respondents. Data were collected through hemoglobin (Hb) level measurements, interviews regarding Iron Supplement Tablets consumption, and assessment of animal protein intake. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that 15 respondents (28.8%) experienced anemia and 37 respondents (71.2%) were not anemic. Most respondents had sufficient animal protein intake, namely 41 respondents (78.8%), while the level of compliance with Iron Supplement Tablets consumption showed that 30 respondents (57.7%) were compliant and 22 respondents (42.3%) were non-compliant. The bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between animal protein intake and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.000), and there was also a significant relationship between compliance with Iron Supplement Tablets consumption and the incidence of anemia (p = 0.010). The conclusion of this study is that sufficient animal protein intake and compliance in consuming Iron Supplement Tablets play an important role in preventing anemia among adolescent girls. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve nutrition education and continuous monitoring of Iron Supplement Tablets consumption.
