Abstract

Background : Nutritional problems still occur among students as a group of young adults and can affect their health and productivity. Unbalanced dietary patterns and modern lifestyles increase the risk of abnormal nutritional status. Nutrition literacy plays a crucial role in determining food choices; however, high literacy levels do not necessarily correlate with dietary patterns and nutritional status.

Objective : This study aims to determine differences in nutrition literacy, dietary patterns, and nutritional status among nutrition and non-nutrition students at the Pontianak Public Health Polytechnic

Methods : This study employed a cross-sectional design with a sample size of 68 respondents selected via simple random sampling. Data collection included nutritional literacy using a questionnaire, dietary patterns using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and nutritional status through measurements of weight and height. Data analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test for data that were not normally distributed and the independent t-test for data that were normally distributed.

Results : Based on the study results, the Mann-Whitney test indicated a significant difference in nutrition literacy (p=0.031), but no significant difference in dietary patterns (p=0.740). Meanwhile, the independent t-test showed no significant difference in nutritional status based on BMI (p=0.802).

Conclusion : It can therefore be concluded that there is a significant difference in nutrition literacy between the nutrition and non-nutrition student groups. However, there were no significant differences in dietary patterns and nutritional status.
